NC CONCEALED CARRY (CCH) TRAINING
Taking the first step toward exercising your right to own a firearm can feel overwhelming. The decision to get your CONCEALED CARRY PERMIT can be even more daunting.
In fact, the more stressful it seems, the more aware you may be of the immense responsibility it carries. And that’s a good thing.
But we often hear the same concerns: “Would I actually use my CCH?” “I’m anxious about carrying.” “I have no experience.” “What if ___ happens?!”
These concerns are valid. Bad things can happen, and the thought of possibly using deadly force on another person is sobering. That’s why preparation is crucial.
At CSDKM, our CCH course offers exactly that: preparation and training in the basics to help you feel confident and equipped.
Our CCH training is based on the USCCA curriculum with a focus on rules specific to North Carolina. We will break this class into 2 classroom sessions and time at the range.
Day 1 Classroom: 1:30-7pm - Firearms fundamentals and safety
Firearms safety
Types of firearms and ammunition
Situational awareness
Day 2 Classroom: 1:30-4:00pm - NC laws regarding carrying a concealed handgun
Review of the applicable NC state laws
Discussion of self-defense scenarios and their aftermath
Day 2 Range: Live fire session (30 minutes drive from CSDKM to Eagle 1) 4:30-6pm (or whenever you finish your range section)

The range session is a separate fee of $22 which will be paid directly to the range operator the day of (cash or card payment available). The location is Eagle 1: 4410 Craftsman Dr, Raleigh, NC 27609.

CONCEALED CARRY HANDGUN COURSE
The CCH course is a North Carolina Department of Justice approved firearm course that fulfills the educational requirements for issuance of a North Carolina Concealed Carry Handgun Permit. The course is composed of an 8 hour classroom session and a firearm proficiency test. When you finish and pass the written and firearms tests, you will receive a certificate which you can take to the sheriff’s office to apply for your permit.
Classroom Session
The classroom session is 8 hours in length and covers the following:
Firearm safety (fundamental safety rules, dealing with children in the house, etc.)
Types of handguns – components; operation & pros/cons of each type
Methods of carry & concealment
Firearm operation – deploying, presenting, and firing the handgun (including sight picture, sight alignment, trigger control)
Firearm cleaning & maintenance
Permit application process
Laws regarding concealed carry of handguns (where handguns may legally be carried, dealing with law enforcement while carrying a firearm, etc.)
Laws regarding use of force in North Carolina (escalation of force, use of deadly force)
State-to-state reciprocity/traveling with a handgun
What to do if you are involved in a self-defense shooting
The classroom session concludes with a written exam (true/false & multiple choice questions).
Firearm Proficiency Test
North Carolina requires all concealed-carry permit holders to complete a shooting qualification. This consists of a total of 30 rounds; 10 rounds each fired from 3, 5, & 7 yards. The target is a standard ‘silhouette’ style target. Students must make 21 of the 30 rounds inside of the 7 ring to pass. Any handgun is acceptable, provided that it is in safe working order. Students are encouraged to bring at least 60 rounds of ammunition in case a re-shoot is necessary (this doesn’t happen often).*
At the end of the course, all passing students will receive a certificate of completion which must be presented to the sheriff’s department when applying for the concealed-carry permit. The process for applying for the permit will be covered during the class.
